Description

New York Times best-selling author Patrick Lencioni unveils a truly groundbreaking new model that will change the way we think about work and teams forever. The 6 Types of Working Genius is the fastest way to help people identify the type of work that brings them joy and energy, and avoid work that leads to frustration and burnout. Beyond the personal discovery and instant relief that Working Genius provides, the model also gives teams a remarkably simple and practical framework for tapping into one another’s natural gifts, which increases productivity and reduces unnecessary judgment. In classic Lencioni fashion, Pat brings his model to life in a page-turning fable that is as relatable as it is compelling. He tells the story of Bull Brooks, an entrepreneur, husband, and father who sets out to solve his own frustration at work and stumbles into a new way of thinking that changes the way he sees his work, his team, and even his marriage. What sets this book—and the model behind it—apart from other tools and assessments is the speed at which it can be understood and applied, and the relevance it has to every kind of work in life, from running a company to launching a product to managing a family. In addition to this book, Lencioni and the Table Group have created a 10-minute assessment that helps individuals quickly identify their gifts and apply this model to themselves and their teams. If you, like I did in the past, do not fully understand why certain aspects of work energize and motivate you and your team and other aspects are draining, but they vary between person, then order Working Genius for you and them TODAY, Now! After reading Working Genius, and may I boldly suggest, taking the assessment, you will be able to better understand yourself, your team, and adjust work to maximize everyone’s “genius.”, Working Genius and the assessment have been invaluable for our team, even our family. Understanding that my desire to solve problem (Invention) and to rally folks around an idea (Galvanizing) makes sense and also understanding my “frustrations” of Tenacity and Enablement have been very helpful because I had been questioning my real value to our team when I am not excited and feel drained around taking a project to completion on my own. Rallying the team around the idea I can do, taking it to the end, it is draining., In our marriage it helped me understand that my bride’s “Genius” of Discernment is not her way to criticizing my ideas randomly (business or otherwise) but to help ensure that the things I or we attempt are fruitful., The Working Genius also gives us language to use when moving through a project. In the beginning we need to think about a problem to be solved, ways to fix it, arguing the merits until a decision is reached and then move forward with rallying the team, encouraging them through the process until we have finished it. As we move through the three key stages it enables the team to let the wonderer know that since we have decided on a solution that questioning it further at this point is not what we need to focus on. Or they can remind me that once we are into the enablement and tenacity phase we do not need additional solutions, but need to focus on pushing through to the end.

I’ve been a Lencioni fan for years and he has a gift of making leadership concepts and solutions seem so simple. Often they are, it’s the execution and accountability that is a struggle., This book is in his typical style of Fabel, then Model. The fable is an almost true to life scenario of how Lencioni and his team discovered and developed the WG model. Like I said, it’s simple yet genius at the same time. Anyone can understand the concepts quickly and taking a deeper dive will help you understand yourself and your team a bit more. Who doesn’t want to enjoy more fulfilling work!?, The term “work” is focused on productivity and this concept can be applied to anything you need to get done. The 3 phases of getting things done are examined (ideation, activation, and implementation) and 6 steps of productivity are presented (wonder, invention, discernment, galvanising, enablement, and tenacity. In the model Lencioni explains each of us likely have 2 areas of genius, 2 areas of competence, and 2 areas of frustration. The frustrations are the things that drain us and the geniuses are the things that give us energy and fulfilment., Read it. You won’t be disappointed! You will learn something about yourself and hopefully your teams too.

I love productivity tools and hacks and basically anything to make things smoother. THIS BOOK explained why things aren’t getting done, or it’s a fight to get them done, or I don’t finish what I start. It also showed me who I need on my team, what I can outsource without guilt and where to ask for help more often., It revolutionized how my family works, what I needed in my work flow and more., It’s the type of book I haven’t stopped talking about since October when I first discovered it., It’s the type of book I have talked to every single friend and family member about., It’s the type of book I will be giving out for graduations, birthdays and probably Christmas., This is NOT personality, this is productivity. This is WHY we struggle and how to stop feeling guilty about it., Get this book. Do not delay. Audiobook, paperback, or podcast. Just do it.

This book will help you understand a simple yet profound model of how work gets done. Within that it will help you to see that we are all wired to be energized by certain parts of that process and drained by others. Through the discovery of those “Geniuses” and “Frustrations” we can become much more joyful and productive in our work.
