News Recommended Books | Overdrive Biggest Books of the Month Fans of Verity by Colleen Hoover won’t want to miss this thrilling new suspense novel from the #1 internationally bestselling author of The Girl Who Was Taken ! Hiding her own dark past in plain sight, a TV reporter is determined to uncover the truth behind a gruesome murder decades after the investigation was abandoned. But TWENTY YEARS LATER, to understand the present, you need to listen to the past… Avery Mason, host of American Events , knows the subjects that grab a TV audience’s attention. Her latest story—a murder mystery laced with kinky sex, tragedy, and betrayal—is guaranteed to be ratings gold. New DNA technology has allowed the New York medical examiner’s office to make its first successful identification of a 9/11 victim in years. The twist: the victim, Victoria Ford, had been accused of the gruesome murder of her married lover. In a chilling last phone call to her sister, Victoria begged her to prove her innocence. Emma Kind has waited twenty years to put her sister to rest, but closure won’t be complete until she can clear Victoria’s name. Alone she’s had no luck, but she’s convinced that Avery’s connections and fame will help. Avery, hoping to negotiate a more lucrative network contract, goes into investigative overdrive. Victoria had been having an affair with a successful novelist, found hanging from the balcony of his Catskills mansion. The rope, the bedroom, and the entire crime scene was covered in Victoria’s DNA. But the twisted puzzle of Victoria’s private life is just the beginning. And what Avery doesn’t realize is that there are other players in the game who are interested in Avery’s own secret past—one she has kept hidden from both the network executives and her television audience. A secret she thought was dead and buried . . . Accused of a brutal murder, Victoria Ford made a final chilling call from the North Tower on the morning of 9/11. Twenty years ago, no one listened. Today, you will. “Breathtaking pacing and clever plot twists.” — Publishers Weekly “An entertaining thriller…surprises lurking around every corner.” — Kirkus Reviews “A superb storyteller.” — Robert Dugoni , New York Times bestselling author

Just when you thought you got it figured out, boom! A full glass off reality gets thrown in your face. Way to finish it off!! I was NOT expecting that ending. This was a really good book. The 20 year anniversary of 9/11 is approaching and Avery Mason is a leading journalist needing to make a name for herself. Her connections lead her to a possible break in her career. Remains from the crumbled towers have finally been identified. Traveling under the rest to NYC hoping to obtain priceless information, Avery finds herself in murder investigation. With her background, she isn’t one to sweep things under a rug., There were some moments that had me lifting my jaw off my chest, laughing out loud, and thinking how messy this was going to get; and I loved it. I love when a book Can do that to me. Take me for ride. There were also times when I had to just roll my eyes because I seen it coming from afar., Overall though, very engrossing. It was hard to put the book down because I wanted to just finish it. So yes. Definitely read it

Here’s how I pick a book: I judge the cover (sorry not sorry) and then I read a few reviews. I like reading a book without knowing what it’s really about., When I first started this book, I was a little bored. I even found a new one to read instead. Once I finished the other book I came back to this one to finish what I started because my daddy didn’t raise a quitter., Let’s just say, I’m glad I chose to finish this book. You could see a twist coming but not until it was about to happen and even though I had suspensions on what might happen next, it was still fun reading it to see how it would play out., I liked the main characters and thought they were each written very well. They had their very own personalities and were believable., Overall, it was a good read. I was cooking dinner and reading at the same time, if that’s any indication on how much I enjoyed the book.

You better strap yourself in for a very wild ride. So many twists and turns. The corruption of a businessman, a 20 year old unsolved murder, and a little bit of romance thrown in. Just when you think you have it all figured out you find out you had it wrong. You’ll say to yourself just one more chapter but it won’t be.
