Description

Opposites certainly attract for the stranded pop star and small-town baker in this charming slice of romance from the author of the TikTok sensation The Cheat Sheet . “This modern take on the Hepburn classic Roman Holiday is a quick, fun, slow-burn rom-com.”—Abby Jimenez, bestselling author of The Friend Zone ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: NPR Amelia Rose, known as Rae Rose to her adoring fans, is burned-out from years of maintaining her “princess of pop” image. Inspired by her favorite Audrey Hepburn film, Roman Holiday, she drives off in the middle of the night for a break in Rome . . . Rome, Kentucky, that is. When Noah Walker finds Amelia on his front lawn in her broken-down car, he makes it clear he doesn’t have the time or patience for celebrity problems. He’s too busy running the pie shop his grandmother left him and reminding his nosy but lovable neighbors to mind their own damn business. Despite his better judgment, he lets her stay in his guest room—but only until her car is fixed—then she’s on her own. Then Noah starts to see a different side of Rae Rose—she’s Amelia: kindhearted and goofy, yet lonely from years in the public eye. He can’t help but get close to her. Soon she’ll have to return to her glamorous life on tour, but until then, Noah will show Amelia all the charming small-town experiences she’s been missing, and she’ll help him open his heart to more. Amelia can’t resist falling for the cozy town and her grumpy tour guide, but even Audrey had to leave Rome eventually.

Amelia is Rae Rose, pop star. She is finding she is not happy with her life, so she decides to take a vacation without telling anyone. Audrey Hepburn is her go-to movie star. She decides to go to Rome like Audrey did in Roman Holiday, but Italy is too far, so she goes to Rome, Kentucky. Her car breaks down on the outskirts of town. A man knocks on her window, but she will not unwind the window or get out of her car. He gets frustrated and walks back to his house where her car is parked on his front lawn. Noah, the man, decides it is too hot for her to stay in her car, so he asks Mabel, his grandmother’s friend, to vouch for his good character. After talking to Mabel, Amelia gets out of the car and stays in Noah’s extra room for the night, figuring she will get to the bed and breakfast in town the next morning. She finds it will take two weeks to fix her car, so Noah reluctantly offers his spare room. Both are attracted but know she will only temporarily be in town, so they make rules and build walls to keep from getting close. Will it work?, I enjoyed this book. It was fun watching Amelia get under Noah’s skin as she imitated him, discovered things about him, constantly chattering at him, and all the other little things she does. Noah’s been burned by an ex-fiancée. He does not trust easily. Even knowing she’s only temporarily in his life, he still falls for her. Amelia also falls for Noah. She has been spoiled living the pop star life and knows little of how to take care of herself. But with Noah, she knows she is safe. I liked watching them set up their rules and walls and seeing them fall. I liked the vulnerability each brings to their relationship. Amelia learns a lot about herself while in Rome. She starts to find the joy of music again as well as the comfort of safe people in her life. Noah also learns about himself while trying not to fall in love., I loved the town and its people. A bunch of gossips who have good hearts and protect those they see as theirs. I loved Noah’s sisters. Each was different in personality, but each backed the others, The characters were quirky. They were fun. They saw love when it hit their town., I look forward to reading more of this author’s work.

I love Sarah‘s writing. She is quick witted and funny, hooks you into the story right away!, These two characters just had a hold on my heart. And I would like to say that Noah has earned a place in the top book boyfriends Hall of Fame! This tender hearted grumpy bear! I love him., I really felt like both characters were fully formed people with their own histories and their own quirks. Their chemistry and banter and teasing was so wonderful. And this little town of Rome, Kentucky that Sarah wrote is just the sweetest.

Overwhelmed by her career and obligations Amelia, aka Rae Rose to her adoring fans, decides to leave town and spend some time in a small town a few hours from her home in Nashville, but when her car breaks down in the middle of the night in what looks like a back road without cell service, she panics and start rethinking her whole strategy. It’s then when she meets Noah, the grumpy man who will change her life., I had never read this author and this book was an amazing surprise. Being an all-time fan of classic movies and having Roman Holiday high on my favorites list, I was wary of the plot at first as I’ve read huge flops claiming to be a take on the movie, but this time was the fabulous exception as Ms. Adams wrote a delightful, fun and heartfelt tale where a woman escaping from the crushing pressures of her life finds herself and love in the most unexpected place of all., The book is beautifully written and, while it was obviously inspired by the movie, keeps its originality and greatly respects the source. It was refreshing to read a story that is fun, sweet and engaging from beginning to end and not a run of the mill book that starts as a rom-com and ends up as a soggy attempt at being funny., Noah Walker is the perfect book boyfriend, his sisters and the rest of the town a complete hoot and sweet, lost, misguided Amelia is a joy to read as she navigates the hardships of finding her voice and taking charge of her life., I truly loved reading When in Rome and will be looking up more books by the author soon., 5 absolutely glorious stars
