I was watching the newly released season of Umbrella Academy when I realized the maniacal laughter I was hearing was not a part of the soundtrack. It was coming from my child’s room. That high pitched cackling terror grew louder as I approached the door. The door to the room of the child who’d just that morning told me we weren’t allowed to say ‘snake’ anymore because she’d had a nightmare about one. And yet, as I asked my hysterical child why in the world she was enjoying what other parents left low reviews for, her face dropped to a shadow and, in a dark deep voice, she growled “FIVE STARSZZZ”. And so, for fear of punishment for dissension, I am leaving this review. She says it’s the best book yet. She found the melodramatic evil to be funny. It was so extra and over-the-top, that it was hilarious to her. My child used to be afraid of the ground. She is afraid of minnows. She will not go in the beach water. She still won’t let me say the word ‘snake’, unless I’m talking about Mr. Snake. She is afraid of words. Words. Words, people. Words. And yet, she finds this book hilarious rather than dark and scary. Go figure., ======================, I am a clansman of the ‘rebuking evil’ people, the ‘casting out’ and tearing down every high thing .. etcetera .. pleading the Blood of JC, and so on and so forth. In short, I am certainly one of those ‘spiritual warfare‘ individuals. It’s a book. We pray. We teach our kids the right way to go. She’s growing up in a world that will fully surround her with all manner of opposition to what I am teaching her. The Bible says that God laughs at the enemy. If my daughter can laugh at this book, then I think she’s gonna be alright. I love that she loves to read it. Bad Guys was her starter drug into the world of reading. Coffee is my drug. Bad Guys is hers. Both make us more intellectually engaged individuals. Blabey and I are good.

My kids and I laughed so hard with this Bad Guys book! We thought the last few books were a bit drab but this one revived the series for us. After only reading it once, my kids recite so many jokes from the book and laugh all over again! This book is the best in the series!, If you have a great sense of humor and don’t perceive “satan” and “demons” in every little thing, you’ll enjoy the book. And even if you do have a heavily satan/demon influenced sense of perception, you’ll still love it as there’s not a single devil or demonic possession depicted! And even IF there was, I’m sure it would only compliment the overall hilarity of this book!

If you have kids that normally do not enjoy reading, try these! My 10 year old was not a reader…. until these! He got books 1-5 from “Santa” and he finished them in under two weeks! I don’t think he read five books on his own for enjoyment ever. He immediately asked for more and again he devoured them. His hysterical laughter caught the interest of his 8 year old brother and now HE is reading them! My little guy will read them out loud to me and be giggling uncontrollably as he reads the funny parts. (My favorite part is from one of the earlier books when Legs meets Shark. I quote from it often now when I want to make them laugh.) They even bring them up to bed when they are “on a good part” and want to finish the chapter…. Wait what? My boys asking to read more?!?! It’s a miracle!!!! My oldest finished all of them before the end of January and now he is bummed that the next one does not come out until Summer. These books are worth every penny! Hands down the best series for reluctant readers!

This series is so engaging! We go through at least one book a day. I hate that we are almost to the end.
